Pool design ideas that actually work in Brisbane backyards
Pool design isn't about copying a Pinterest photo — it's about working with your block, your house, your climate, and your real-world use. This blog collects what we've learned across hundreds of Brisbane builds: which materials hold up, which shapes suit which yards, and which design moves quietly fail two summers in.
Modern plunge pools, lap pools for narrow blocks, family resort pools, indoor-outdoor integration, sloping site solutions, and the materials we actually trust — travertine, bluestone, pebble-crete, integrated spas. Everything here is grounded in real Wahoo builds, not concept renders.

What's not included in pool package pricing
Wahoo's package prices cover everything inside the pool itself, plus its core equipment and our build coordination. Items not included in package pricing — itemised separately in your quote so you see the actual costs:
- Excavation — varies by site, soil, and access. Typical range $3,000–$8,000 depending on suburb (see service areas for council-specific notes).
- Pool fencing — legally required, choice of standard aluminium ($4,000–$8,000) through to frameless glass ($8,000–$15,000).
- Surrounding paving, decking, or landscape work — frequently integrated under the same Wahoo contract using our QBCC structural landscaping licence.
- Council application fees — lodgement work is included; council's own fees ($650–$1,800 typical) are pass-through.
- Electrical work for pool equipment — typically a few hundred dollars via your sparky.
- Water for initial fill — mains, tanker, or bore as applicable to your property.

Designs that hold up in the Brisbane sun and the Brisbane storm
Every Wahoo design is reviewed by Mike (project manager & co-owner, licensed in Building, Pool Construction and Structural Landscaping) before contract. We work with you to refine the layout to your block — not just drop a template into your backyard. And because we've built across every SEQ council area, we know which materials suit which microclimates.
Got a design in mind? Let's see if it fits.
Free site visit. We'll walk your block, sketch what's possible, and tell you honestly which configuration suits the space — even if it's not the one you came in for.
