Compliance & Licensing

COMPLIANCE & LICENSING · VERIFIABLE FACTS

Licensing, insurance, and Queensland regulatory compliance

Pool construction in Queensland is regulated, for good reason. Licensing protects you from unlicensed builders. Pool safety law protects children. Insurance protects everyone. Here's exactly where Wahoo stands on each, with the verifiable numbers and references you'd expect from a builder you can trust with a $50,000+ project.

Building Licensing

QBCC Licence No. 15247996

Wahoo Pool & Landscape Construction Pty Ltd holds a current QBCC Licence. The QBCC is the statutory body that regulates building work in Queensland. You can verify our licence directly at qbcc.qld.gov.au → by searching licence number 15247996.

Licence Coverage

  • Builder — Open (high-rise residential and commercial)
  • Pool Construction (concrete and fibreglass)
  • Structural Landscaping

This breadth matters. We integrate pool construction with structural landscaping — retaining walls, paving, decking — without subcontracting to a separate landscaper, which is a common point of failure on poolside builds.

INSURANCE · BEYOND THE MINIMUM

Three layers of protection for your build

Public Liability Insurance. Wahoo carries Public Liability cover well above the QBCC minimum requirement. This protects you against any third-party damage or injury arising from our work on your site. Certificates of currency are available on request before contract signing.

Workers' Compensation Insurance. All Wahoo employees and registered subcontractors covered by current Workers' Compensation insurance through WorkCover Queensland. Protects you from liability if a tradesman is injured on your property.

Home Warranty Insurance (QBCC Insurance Scheme). For residential building work over the QBCC threshold, Wahoo lodges Home Warranty Insurance with QBCC at the start of every build. Protects you against: loss of deposit if the builder cannot start work, non-completion of contract, and defective work for the statutory warranty period.

Council Approvals

We handle every council submission

Every pool build in Queensland requires development approval from the local council. Wahoo handles the entire submission and approval process on your behalf.

Most SEQ councils return residential pool approvals within 10–15 business days. We submit within days of contract signing so approval is never on the critical path.

QUEENSLAND POOL SAFETY LAW

Among Australia's strictest — here's what's required

Queensland's pool safety laws, governed by the Building Act 1975 and Queensland Pool Safety Standard (MP 3.4), are among the strictest in Australia.

Pool fencing: Compliant pool barrier at least 1.2m high; self-closing, self-latching gates swinging outwards; no climbable objects within the non-climbable zone (1.2m outside, 900mm inside); vertical bar gaps no greater than 100mm.

CPR sign: Compliant CPR resuscitation sign must be displayed near every pool. Wahoo provides and installs the compliant sign as part of every build.

Pool Safety Certificate: Issued by an independent licensed Pool Safety Inspector at completion of every new pool build, renewable every 2 years for residential pools. Required at every property ownership transfer. Operating a residential pool without a current certificate carries financial penalties.

  • Independent engineering sign-off

Every Wahoo pool has its steel reinforcement inspected and signed off by an independent aquatic engineer before any concrete is sprayed. This is not a council requirement — it's a Wahoo standard. The engineer's written sign-off forms part of your handover document pack.

  • Zodiac/Waterco Dealer

We're authorised dealers of both Zodiac and Waterco — Australia's two leading pool equipment brands. This gives us flexibility to spec the right equipment for your build, with extended warranties and priority service on every project.
